This means that when the partition of your Mac that contains the version of OS X that you use starts filling up, you will start seeing this message from your computer. On a Mac, the startup disk is the partition of the Mac’s HDD or SSD that its Operating System resides in. When a Mac’s startup disk starts running out of free disk space and starts filling up, it starts displaying a message stating “ Your startup disk is almost full” to the user.
